DeShara Suggs-Joe graduated with her MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts and her BA in Marketing Communications, Public Relations. She is the Creative Director for Winter Tangerine and the Co-Founder of the Daughter’s Tongue Coalition. During her time so far with WT, she has crafted syllabi for online workshops, co-led online workshops and advised in-person workshops in New York City. Previously, DeShara’s coalition has self-published two chapbooks, and produced five poetry readings in the Bay Area. DeShara has received fellowships from Callaloo, The Poetry Incubator, and Pink Door. She is also a former member of the Youth Speaks Collective. She has released three poetry videos on her YouTube channel, Supershardom. She’s been published in Tinderbox Journal, Winter Tangerine, Button Poetry YouTube's channel, The Texas Review, The Oakland Review, and Art Cult Zine. She has new work forthcoming from Dovesong Labs. She has performed at the likes of Spotify, Yahoo, Pinterest, and other venues around the Bay, Chicago, and New York. She was also the Writer in Residence for the Black Light Exhibition at the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art. Though, through it all, she considers home the spaces she gets to teaching creative writing workshops, reading Jesmyn Ward or Ai, and listening to her "Feels" or "Home Frequency" playlist on repeat.
She is very passionate about creating, whether it be a new poem, sappy, high-key inspirational post on Instagram, or a new marketing campaign and she decided to harness her skills into a budding copywriting career. She is obsessed with composition and she has aspirations to one day be a New York Times best-selling author, creative director or a wellness influencer. Mainly, she wants to write. She's witty, intelligent, on social media way too much, a natural leader, constantly watching YouTube videos, brainstorming new photoshoot ideas, playing around on photoshop, reading, or attempting to learn a new skill. HIRE HER!
