DeShara Suggs-Joe recently graduated with her MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts and is a Co-Founder of the Daughter’s Tongue Coalition. DeShara’s coalition has self-published two chapbooks, and produced five poetry readings in the Bay Area. DeShara is a 2016 Callaloo fellow and a member of the Youth Speaks Collective. She has released three poetry videos on her YouTube channel, Supershardom. She has publication forthcoming from Winter Tangerine and is also published on Button Poetry YouTube's channel, The Texas Review, The Oakland Review, and Art Cult Zine. She has performed at the likes of Spotify, Yahoo, Pinterest, and other venues around the Bay. She was the Writer in Residence for the Black Light Exhibition at the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art. Though she feels most at home when she is teaching creative writing workshops to Bay Area youth, reading Jesmyn Ward, or listening to "Feels" or "Girl Power" playlist on repeat.
She is very passionate about creating, whether it be a new poem, chapbook with her collective, the comic book she writes for, or a new marketing campaign. She is obsessed with composition and she has aspirations to one day be a creative director or a major social influencer. Mainly, she just wants to write. She's witty, intelligent, on social media way too much, a natural leader, watching YouTube videos, brainstorming new photoshoot ideas, playing around on photoshop, reading, or attempting to learn a new skill.
