DeShara Suggs-Joe recently graduated with her MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts and is a Co-Founder of the Daughter’s Tongue Coalition. DeShara’s coalition has self-published two chapbooks, and produced five poetry readings in the Bay Area. DeShara is a 2016 Callaloo fellow and a member of the Youth Speaks Collective. She has released three poetry videos on her YouTube channel, Supershardom. She has publication forthcoming from the Texas Review and is also published on Button Poetry YouTube's channel, The Oakland Review, and Art Cult Zine. She has performed at the likes of Spotify, Yahoo, Pinterest, and other venues around the Bay. She was the Writer in Residence for the Black Light Exhibition at the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art. Though she feels most at home when she is teaching creative writing workshops to Bay Area youth, reading Jesmyn Ward, or listening to Solange and Kendrick Lamar on repeat.
She is very passionate about creating, whether it be a new poem, chapbook with her collective, or a new marketing campaign. She is obsessed with composition and she has aspirations to one day be a creative director or a major social influencer. She has assisted and/or managed the marketing strategy of brands such as LiftMaster, Bonner Communications, Fogcutter, Intermix-Chicago, Jeeves Dry Cleaner, Universal Music Group, Anna Fong (local Chicago Fashion designer), I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, and Bertolli. Through those experiences, she has had the opportunity to pitch bloggers and online media, administer online sweepstakes, coordinate events, write copy for online resources, research, manage various Twitter and Facebook accounts, and produce monitoring reports of her findings. She is also proficient in identifying “eminents” or key influencers in several industries, maintaining blogger/media lists, account management, vendor relations, and client relations. She has experience with Photoshop and Illustrator, Radian 6, Google Analytics, Google Alerts, Compete, Hootsuite, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest, Tweetdeck, Search Engine Optimization, HTML, WordPress, and Co-Tweet.
